Getting Started
Once a BlackBerry purchase has been approved, WWS Computing Services will order the device, register it with OIT and configure it. There should be a Getting Started Manual included with the device. In addition, documentation is available online from BlackBerry for specific models. The WWS standard model is currently the 8700G with T-Mobile service, configured for phone and data with international service.

Traveling Overseas with Blackberry
Although WWS BlackBerries have international service, calls are not covered under the monthly plan. All calls are charged on a per minute basis. Calls from most of Western Europe are $1.00 - $1.50 per mintue, but dialing from other locations may be more expensive. See T-Mobile's International Services page for coverage and rates.
If you're traveling to one country for an extended period, it is possible to replace the SIM card with one intended for the country you're visiting. This will provide local phone service, but not data. Also your BlackBerry must be unlocked to switch SIM cards. If you're interested in this option, contact the WWS Help Desk for assistance.
Using Your BlackBerry as a Tethered Modem
It's possible to use a some BlackBerry models as an external modem to connect a computer or laptop to the Internet anywhere your BlackBerry can. While it does not provide broadband speed, the connection is fine for emailing, blogging, and light web browsing. Contact the WWS Help Desk if you would like to configure your BlackBerry this way.
