Office Equipment

WWS supplies office computers for all faculty and staff. The standard machine is a Dell Optiplex running Windows XP. WWS office computers are part of Princeton's DeSC program that provides a standardized desktop computer environment for administrative computing. This equipment is replaced on a three year cycle. Many offices have local printers also.

Before you can log on to your office machine, you must have a valid netid and password.  Please see Kristin Wade, 424 Robertson Hall, (258-4801) for account information. You can configure your account passwords at the following URL - http://www.princeton.edu/accounts

In addition to changing your password, you can manage email, quota and directory information through the Accounts Management page -- http://www.princeton.edu/accounts

Your computer is connected to several computer systems on campus.  All are accessed using the same username (or netid).

When you log on to your computer (by pressing the Ctrl-Alt-Del keys) you will connect to the Princeton domain.  You have been assigned a folder (directory) on the OIT Central File Server (CFS) where you may store your data.  You can locate this "home directory" by referencing \\files\NetID mapped to you H:\ drive.  Detailed information regarding CFS is available in the OIT knowledgebase article.  Additional WWS network resources are located on \\files\dept\wws\admin mapped to S:\.

You may have a local printer.  Additionally, you will have access to a network printer located near your office.

Your computer is running the Microsoft Windows XP operating system.  Please log out every night by closing all open applications and clicking Start|Log Off.  Since scheduled back ups and software upgrades occur in the evening, it is important to leave your computer powered up at all times.

Please do not install any additional software on your own.  Your programs may not run properly if they are not installed by an administrator.
