Graduate Certificates at the Woodrow Wilson School

For those students who want to combine the study of public policy with the study of a related discipline, the Woodrow Wilson School offers graduate certificate programs in the areas of Health and Health Policy, Science, Technology and Enviornmental Policy (STEP), and Demography.

The Certificate in Health and Health Policy trains graduate students for careers in health-related areas in the public and not-for-profit sectors. The program is designed for students with domestic and international health interests, and provides both broad training in core topics in health and health policy as well as courses in specialized areas. Woodrow Wilson School PhD, MPA and MPP students are eligible for the Certificate. Graduate students in other University departments may also make arrangements to complete the Certificate.

Started in 2003-04, this Certificate program reflects the recent growth in research and teaching on health in the Woodrow Wilson School. The Center for Health and Wellbeing, founded in 2000 and directed by WWS professor Christina Paxson, has 22 faculty associates including Nobel Prize recipient Daniel Kahneman, and hosts a number of visiting scholars and practitioners.

The WWS also offers a Certificate in Science Technology and Environmental Policy, sponsored by STEP. The program emphasizes the rigorous science needed to inform effective policy, and the governmental context in which scientists and science, technology, and engineers must operate in order to implement positive policy changes. Woodrow Wilson School PhD, MPA and MPP students are eligible for the Certificate.

In addition, the Office of Population Research (OPR), in connection with the Program in Population Studies, offers a non-degree Certificate in Demography to those who successfully complete four graduate courses in population studies. Applicants are usually either enrolled MPA students from the Woodrow Wilson School or participants in the Visiting Scholars program.
