Shaukat Aziz, Prime Minister and Finance Minister of Pakistan, to speak at WWS, Nov. 9

Shaukat Aziz, Prime Minister and Finance Minister of Pakistan, will present a public lecture at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs entitled, "Pakistan's Role in Regional Peace and Development," on Thursday, November 9, at 5:30 p.m. in Dodds Auditorium, Robertson Hall, on the Princeton University campus.

This event is open to the public. Doors to Dodds Auditorium will open at 4:30 pm; visitors will not be permitted to queue in line before 4:15 pm. ALL visitors to Robertson Hall will be required to pass through security measures, and ALL parcels and backpacks will be searched. There will be NO ADMITTANCE to Dodds Auditorium after 5:25 pm. This lecture will be simulcast to Bowls 001, 002, and 016, as well.

Aziz was sworn in as 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan on August 28, 2004. He has over 30 years of experience in global finance and international banking and started his career in 1969 when he joined Citibank in Karachi. He served as Citibank's head of Corporate and Investment Banking for various regions, including the Asia Pacific region, Central & Eastern Europe, and the Middle East and Africa as Corporate Planning Officer, and as Country Manager in Malaysia and Jordan. He has been a board member of Citibank subsidiaries including Saudi American Bank, Citicorp Islamic Bank, and of several non-profit organizations. He was appointed Executive Vice President of Citibank in 1992, reporting directly to the Chairman/CEO. Before taking leave from Citigroup, he was the head of its global Private Banking division.

In November 1999 Aziz was appointed as Pakistan's Minister of Finance with responsibility for finance, economic affairs, statistics, planning and development and the revenue divisions. As Minister of Finance, Aziz is also chairman of the economic coordination committee of the cabinet; chairman of the executive committee of the national economic council; and chairman of the cabinet committee on privatization. In 2001 he was declared Finance Minister of the Year by Euro money and Bankers Magazine.

He is a frequent speaker on international finance and has attended numerous forums, seminars and conference on international finance as well as attended management course at several universities. He has been a member of the board of several Citibank owned entities including Saudi American Bank, Citi Islamic Bank as well as several non-profit organizations.

Aziz received his MBA from Institute of Business Administration, Karachi.
