Pathways to Public Service
Dean's Welcome

On behalf of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, I am delighted to welcome you to Pathways to Public Service. This is a new workshop for Princeton alumni who have taken time out for several years to raise a family and are considering returning to the workforce.
Many women and men who have “stepped out” of the workforce for childrearing have different priorities when they choose to return. If you are one of those people, our appeal to you is to consider public service! The government needs top talent, and there are challenging and rewarding possibilities at the local, state and national levels. More importantly, there are real opportunities to make a difference.
Princeton alumni have served this nation and its people in many ways – from George Shultz who began his career as a professor and went on to hold four different federal cabinet posts, including Secretary of State, to Wendy Kopp who took her senior thesis and turned it into the hugely successful Teach for America. These are just two examples to highlight a long and distinguished tradition of service embodied in the University’s informal motto, Princeton in the Nation’s Service and in the Service of All Nations.
In keeping with this tradition, the Pathways to Public Service workshop will help alumni learn more about working in the public sector and provide networking opportunities with peers and potential mentors. I hope you will join us.
